For a 3 meter banner in normal outdoor use (garden, sheltered square, living room interior), a fillable water base of 15-20 kg equivalent is more than sufficient. For a windier exposure (open car park, seaside, terrace in the open wind), increase to a minimum of 25 kg. For permanent indoor use (event hall, corporate reception), a heavy fixed metal base 15 kg offers optimal stability without regular filling handling.

The filling of a standard water base takes 1 to 2 minutes: capacity 8-15 liters depending on the model, fillable by tap or bottle with a suitable neck. The filling cap closes tightly after filling to prevent leaks during transport. The dump at the end of the event is just as fast. For use in winter, systematically drain the base after each use to avoid freezing which could crack the tank.

The water bases must not be left filled in freezing weather: freezing water increases in volume and can crack the plastic tank. For permanent installations in cold climates, drain the base before the first frost or fill it with suitable antifreeze (a mixture of water + 30% non-toxic glycol is suitable and remains liquid down to -15°C). For permanent use in very cold climates, a heavy metal base without liquid is generally more practical.

No, water bases must never be transported filled: risk of overflowing, damage to the vehicle, dangerous imbalance for driving. Systematically drain the base before any transport, even for a short trip. At the arrival site, filling takes just 1-2 minutes with local tap water. This logic is one of the great economic advantages of water bases compared to heavy bases: very reduced transport weight (2-3 kg empty compared to 15-25 kg for a metal base).

The fillable water base is quicker to fill/drain (tap water) but limited in capacity (8-15 liters = 8-15 kg equivalent). The sand base requires more effort to fill but offers a greater capacity (15-25 kg for an equivalent size) and remains usable in cold climates without risk of freezing. Sand is more practical for permanent installations; water for portable event uses. Choice according to your priority use.

Professional quality weighted bases generally do not need additional ground fixing if they are correctly sized. For particularly exposed installations (5 meter banner by the sea, permanent full wind) or locations at risk of vandalism (highly frequented area at night), ground anchors using chemical anchors provide additional security. This fixing makes the installation permanent: really weigh this option before installation.
