Industry, Construction & Workshops

Safety Signage for Industrial Workshops and Building Sites

In industrial environments, production workshops, logistics warehouses and construction sites, safety signage is critically important: identification of mandatory PPE (hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, footwear), warning of specific hazards (electrical, chemical, mechanical), marking of restricted access areas, and evacuation route marking.

For these demanding environments, choose thermolacquered aluminium or high-resistance PVC that withstand harsh conditions (impacts, splashing, handling). Complete your setup with physical impact protection (anti-collision posts, bumpers) that physically prevent access to risk areas, complementing your warning signage.

Offices, Public Buildings & Facilities

Safety Signage for Offices and Public Access Facilities

In offices, hotels, restaurants, retail stores, schools, hospitals and public facilities, safety signage complies with specific requirements for public access buildings: comprehensive fire signage (exits, fire extinguishers, alarms), accessibility for people with disabilities (adapted signage), general prohibitions (smoking, restricted access), and maximum occupancy information.

For large-capacity facilities (hospitals, schools, hotels, shopping centers), installing photoluminescent evacuation panels ensures visibility even during power outages. Complement with our interchangeable door plates for clear identification of offices and rooms, and a wall-mounted snap frame for displaying regulatory notices.

Questions fréquentes

What are the legal obligations for safety signage in businesses?

In France, the Labor Code (articles R4224-23 et seq.) requires all employers to install safety signage adapted to the risks present in the company: signage of dangers, identification of mandatory PPE at workstations, signage of emergency exits and means of fighting fire. For ERPs, additional obligations apply depending on the category (reception capacity) and the type of activity. Signage must comply with the ISO 7010 standard for pictograms.

Are all Stand-Direct pictograms ISO 7010 compliant?

Yes, our entire safety signage range complies with the international standard ISO 7010 which defines standardized safety pictograms on a global scale. This compliance ensures universal understanding by all users, including foreign visitors who do not speak the local language. We provide certificates of conformity on request, essential for public orders and regulatory audits of establishments.

Are luminescent signs needed for emergency exits?

For large capacity ERPs and establishments at particular risk (industries, risky workshops), regulations may require photoluminescent signs which remain visible in the event of a power outage. These panels charge in daylight and emit their own light for several hours in total darkness (EN ISO 17398 compliance). For offices and small establishments, standard panels compliant with ISO 7010 are sufficient in the majority of cases. Consult your local safety commission if in doubt.

What installation height for safety signs?

The general rule: the orientation and evacuation signs must be at eye level (1.50 to 2.20 m from the ground) and visible from the area concerned without obstacles. The PPE identification signs at the workstation must be visible before accessing the risk area. The prohibition and warning signs are positioned at the entrance to the area concerned. For environments where forklifts pass, provide reinforced fixings at height (3-4 m) to prevent tearing.

What is the difference between prohibition and obligation signs?

The prohibition sign uses round red pictograms with a diagonal bar: they prohibit an action or access (prohibition of smoking, prohibited access, prohibited direction). The obligatory signage uses round blue pictograms: they impose an action or equipment (wearing a helmet is compulsory, wearing gloves is compulsory, wearing safety shoes). These two families are ISO 7010 standardized and universally understandable. A third family: yellow triangular warnings indicating danger without prohibiting or imposing.

What material for industrial workshop signage?

For industrial environments and workshops, choose 1.5-2 mm thick powder-coated aluminum which resists shocks, projections, handling and industrial cleaning. For areas with high mechanical stress (passage of trolleys, oil splashes), 3 mm thick or stainless steel plates are preferable. Avoid standard PVC panels and adhesive vinyl in industrial environments: their lifespan is much shorter (1-3 years compared to 15-20 years for aluminum).

Can Stand-Direct support a complete signage audit?

Stand-Direct is specialized in the supply of signage material. For complete regulatory audits (identification of risks, sizing of the system, compliance with specific standards in your sector), we can direct you to partner prevention design offices in the BENELUX territory. For significant compliance projects identified by your audit, our technical advisors support the selection of references and the installation logistics planning.

How long does it take to bring warehouse signage into compliance?

For a standard logistics warehouse of 2000-5000 m², count: 1-2 weeks of audit and inventory of needs, 2-3 weeks of supply and customization of panels, 1-2 weeks of on-site installation. In total, allow 5-8 weeks for a complete and well-executed project. For larger or multi-site warehouses, the schedule can extend over several months depending on the scope. Stand-Direct supports supply logistics planning to synchronize with your installation schedule.

What delivery time for safety signage?

The standard signs in stock (prohibitions, obligations, warnings, fire signs in common formats and materials) are shipped within 24-48 hours and delivered in 2-4 working days in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Germany. For customized panels (specific formats, company marking), allow 5-10 days of production. For large volume orders (complete business equipment, multi-site fleet), our salespeople establish an appropriate logistics schedule.

Bringing your safety signage into compliance: best practices

The compliance of the safety signage of your establishment is a legal obligation but also an operational issue for the protection of people. A few simple rules allow you to have a truly effective and compliant device.

First principle: carry out a complete preliminary audit. Identify all the risks present in your establishment (electrical, mechanical, chemical, fire, falls, slips), all mandatory PPE depending on the workstations, all evacuation zones and their routes. This systematic inventory is the basis of a complete and coherent system. For complex establishments, be accompanied by a qualified prevention officer or IPRP.

Second principle: respect standardized color codes and pictograms. The regulations impose precise codes: red for prohibitions, blue for obligations, yellow for warnings, green for rescue. Pictograms must follow the ISO 7010 standard to be universally understood, including by foreign visitors who do not speak the local language. Avoid fanciful or non-standardized pictograms which can generate dangerous confusion.

Third principle: visibility and installation height. Safety signs must be visible from the affected areas without obstruction. Orientation and evacuation signs must be placed at eye level (1.50 to 2.20 m from the ground). The PPE identification signs at the workstation must be visible before access to the risk area. For environments with high variable lighting, choose photoluminescent supports which remain visible in the event of a power outage.

Fourth principle: consistency with employee training. Signage alone is not enough. It must be accompanied by initial and regular training of employees on risks, mandatory PPE and evacuation procedures. Signage reminds and materializes these instructions on a daily basis. For visitors and temporary workers, provide a welcome booklet with essential instructions with photos of the signage on site.

Fifth principle: maintenance and updating. Audit your safety signage regularly (at least once a year) to identify damaged, missing or outdated signs (change in risks, change in procedures). Immediately replace any damaged panel that no longer serves its purpose. For additional physical protection (areas at risk of collision by vehicle), consult our impact protection solutions.
