Warehouse & Handling Areas

Protecting Logistics Warehouses and Material Handling Zones

Logistics warehouses experience dozens of impacts daily from forklifts, storage racks, walls and building corners. Without proper protection, these repeated impacts generate significant cumulative repair costs and weaken the building structure over time.

For effective and cost-efficient protection, identify your critical zones: wall corners at intersections, storage rack bases, loading dock access areas, technical structures (fire extinguishers, electrical cabinets). Prioritize protecting these areas with polyurethane bumpers and impact-resistant posts. Complement with compliant safety signage for PPE identification and zone marking.

Industrial Workshops

Safety Protection for Production Facilities and Manufacturing Areas

In industrial workshops and production zones, impact protection serves dual purposes: safeguarding installations (machinery, structures, valuable equipment) and operator safety. Protective foam for high-risk contact areas (sharp corners, protruding structures), bumpers for equipment passage routes, anti-collision posts to designate secure pedestrian zones.

For heavily exposed environments (heavy industry, hazardous material handling), reinforced protections (painted galvanised steel, superior dimensioning) are essential. Combine with clear professional indoor signage for wayfinding and zone identification, plus floor markings compliant with industrial standards.

Questions fréquentes

Which corner protector should I choose to protect a warehouse wall corner?

To protect a wall corner in a forklift traffic zone, choose a high-density polyurethane corner bumper with 100-150 mm thickness and 80-120 cm height (covering the impact zone of forks and the forklift body). Yellow/black regulatory colors for visibility and deterrent effect. Fixed with structural adhesive or anchors depending on usage intensity. This modest investment (€80-200 per protected corner) prevents much costlier repairs over time.

What is the lifespan of a polyurethane bumper?

A professional-grade polyurethane bumper withstands hundreds of repeated impacts without permanent deformation. In intensive logistics use, expect 5 to 10 years of service before replacement (cumulative deformation, loss of elasticity, fading of safety colors). For high-impact areas (multiple daily impacts), plan preventive replacement at 5 years to maintain protection effectiveness. Replacement costs remain modest compared to the damage avoided.

Is a protective post required in front of electrical cabinets?

Yes, it is strongly recommended and even mandatory in certain contexts (ATEX-regulated industries, high-stakes equipment). An impact from a forklift on an electrical cabinet can create a major electrical hazard, costly operational downtime, and expose the employer to liability. Two steel anti-collision posts painted yellow and galvanized, installed in front of the cabinet (at 50 cm distance), absorb impacts and provide lasting protection for vital equipment.

Is protective foam really effective?

The protective foam (HD25 or HD50 depending on density) is effective for light to moderate impacts: pedestrian contact with sharp edges, occasional manual cart collisions, protection of fragile surfaces (glass, decorative panels). For more violent impacts (forklifts at normal speed), foam is insufficient and you should switch to polyurethane bumpers or steel anti-collision posts. The choice depends on the nature of impacts expected in the area to be protected.

How do I install a protective bumper guard?

Two main installation methods. Structural adhesive bonding: quick (5 minutes per bumper), removable when space usage changes, sufficient for moderate impact zones. Screwing with reinforced metal anchors: permanent fixation (10-15 minutes per bumper), essential for high-impact zones or heavy-duty protection. Installation instructions are included with each delivery. For heavily exposed installations, through-bolt anchoring may be necessary.

What height should I choose for a safety bollard?

The bollard height depends on the type of protection you need. To stop a forklift (frontal impact to the chassis), a height of 80-100 cm is sufficient. To mark a zone and prevent vehicle access (without necessarily stopping heavy equipment), 100-120 cm. To protect pedestrian areas from intrusion with strong visual deterrence, 120-150 cm. For high-risk zones (heavy loads, high-speed handling operations), bollards up to 200 cm are available with reinforced anchoring systems.

What is the cost to protect a logistics warehouse?

For a standard logistics warehouse of 2000-5000 m², budget 3000 to 8000€ for a complete protection system: corner bumpers, impact-resistant posts for critical zones, protective foam for sensitive areas, and associated floor markings. This investment typically pays for itself after the first impact avoided (a major structural repair can cost several thousand euros). For larger warehouses or higher-risk facilities, the budget can reach 15-25,000€ but remains fully justified by the costs avoided over the facility's lifespan.

What are the delivery times for impact protection products?

Our standard in-stock references (common polyurethane bumpers, standard galvanized steel posts, standard protective foam) are delivered within 7 to 14 working days across France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Germany. For custom configurations (made-to-measure dimensions, custom colours, reinforced anchoring), allow 3 to 5 weeks for production. For large equipment projects (complete warehouse, multi-site facilities), logistics schedules are defined with our sales team.

Size your impact protection device correctly

The sizing of a shock protection device in an industrial or logistics environment directly determines its effectiveness. A few simple rules make it possible to avoid under-protection (which lets impacts pass) and over-protection (which wastes budget).

First principle: precisely identify risk areas. Map traffic flows: forklift passages, loading areas, access to storage racks, corners of walls rubbed regularly by machines. Each risk area must be identified individually to dimension its specific protection. Do not protect the entire building uniformly: concentrate your resources on the areas really exposed.

Second principle: evaluate the nature of the expected impacts. Forklift impact at moderate speed (5-10 km/h): standard polyurethane bumper 50-100 mm thick is sufficient. Impact at higher speed or with heavier machine: thicker bumper 150-200 mm or steel protection post. Occasional light impact (pedestrian impacts with manual trolley): protective foam or simple corner bumper. Adapt the thickness and material to the expected impact force.

Third principle: favor signage visibility. Effective protection is also clearly visible protection that deters. The regulatory color codes (yellow/black for danger, green for secure areas) attract the attention of operators and themselves reduce the frequency of impacts. Combine with wall warning signage (ISO 7010 panels) to reinforce preventive visual deterrence.

Fourth principle: protect pedestrian zones. Circulation areas where pedestrians are in contact with machines (order preparation areas, changing room access from logistics areas, crossings) must be absolutely protected by robust anti-shock posts which prevent the intrusion of a machine into the pedestrian zone. This physical protection complements the ground signage and markings.

Fifth principle: anticipate scalability. Your logistics flows may evolve (new preparation circuit, new storage area, change of equipment). Favor removable modular protection solutions that adapt to future developments. For protection posts and specific bumpers, consult our dedicated subcategories with sizing adapted to each need.
